Once commissioned in 2014, the 800kV link will be State Grid’s newest and highest capacity transmission system in the country.
The power and automation group will supply transformers and related equipment that will be key elements of the 2,210km power highway, which would have 8,000MW rated transmission capacity.
The transformers, which will be installed at the Hami sending station, will convert power to direct current and transmit it to the city of Zhengzhou in China.
ABB’s delivery for this order also includes components such as bushings, tap changers, composite insulators and insulation kits.
ABB Power Products division head Bernhard Jucker highlighted the firm’s established engineering, manufacturing and R&D footprint in China, where it intends to continue supporting power infrastructure development.
"We have the knowledge and capacity to manufacture such high-end transformers and critical components," Jucker added.
