Under the $30m contract, ABB will supply nine transformers including seven 1,000 megavolt ampere (MVA) 420/300kV autotransformers and two 300 MVA 420/132kV power transformers, to ensure a stable power supply.

ABB said that the transformer technology is expected to support more renewable energy integration while contributing to the country’s climate targets.

The contract is a part of Statnet’s effort to upgrade the voltage of main grid from 300kV to 420kV in Norway. The upgrade project includes conversion of existing 300kV power lines and substations or by replacing aging low-capacity lines with new, higher-capacity lines.

ABB said that the use of existing transmission corridors is an environmentally friendly, cost-effective solution to increase grid capacity.

The company also provides both liquid-filled and dry-type transformers as well as services for complete lifecycle support, including replacement parts and components.
