Power and automation technology group ABB has secured an order worth about $22m from Alghanim International General Trading and Contracting to supply electrical equipment and power systems for the Az Zour South power plant upgrade project in Kuwait.

As part of an expansion plan, 400MW of generation capacity is to be added to the Az Zour combined-cycle facility.

ABB will supply the electrical balance of plant, the distributed control system, field instrumentation and generator transformer.

The scope of the project also includes an extension of the 275kV gas-insulated switchgear substation, medium- and low-voltage equipment and the substation automation system.

According to ABB, the project is expected to be completed by March next year.
