Power and automation technology group ABB has secured an order worth approximately $15m from Power Grid Corporation of India to supply ultra-high voltage transformers.

The company will supply, erect and commission 500 megavolt ampere, 765kV autotransformers for the Jabalpur pooling substation in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

The substation will receive electricity from the eastern Indian state of Orissa and distribute it within Madhya Pradesh.

Commissioning of the transformers is scheduled for the middle of 2013 and the transformers will be manufactured at ABB’s Vadodara facility in the state of Gujarat.

ABB global transformers business head Markus Heimbach said that the transformers are designed to ensure maximum availability, energy savings and reduced life cycle costs.
