General Electric has contracted ABB to supply electrical equipment for a new power and desalination plant in Qatar.
The $44 million deal will see ABB provide the complete electrical scope for the extension of an existing plant under construction near the capital Doha. It includes a 220 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) as well as transformers.
The 550 MW station will be operated for 25 years by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corp. The contract is scheduled to be completed next February.
