The Times reported AA’s observation that average petrol prices in the UK reached 103.62p a liter compared to 88.25p a liter for the same period in 2007. Similarly, diesel prices also moved upward to 108.58p a liter compared to 93.62p a liter in the previous year.
The AA was reported as saying that the government was receiving an additional GBP2.85 million in fuel taxes daily and the blame for high fuel prices lay partly with the government’s decision to levy the extra 2.35p per liter duty.
The Times observed that the news of the AA’s letter to the Chancellor comes at a time when Mr Darling is seeking to discuss with the energy regulator, Ofgem, the growing concerns about increasing energy prices in the UK.
