Introduced by Dr David Fletcher, chief executive of British Waterways, the Vernon Harcourt Lecture 2002 will look at new uses for existing waterways and the construction of a national water grid.

The lecture, set to take place at the UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers on 29 January 2002, will assess the way in which crumbling 18th Century structures can be seen as assets from which social and economic benefits can be derived.

There is no charge to attend. Reserve a seat by contacting Kathleen Hollow on 0207 665 2242 or Kathleen.hollow@ice.org.uk.
