Volume XIV Issue 4

ThailandFloods caused by failure of embankments constitute a hazard to both people and properties downstream. To reduce downstream damage and loss of life principal concerns are how to estimate the outflow through the breach, and how the process of breaching of the dam is developed. In the present study, data obtained from laboratory experimental runs on model embankments are analysed. Based on dimensional analysis, correlations to predict peak discharge and subsidence of the embankment crest on the breached embankment due to overtopping are proposed.
