The largest solar project in Texas broke ground this month when 174 Power Global Corp, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hanwha Energy corporation of South Korea, began construction of the 236 MW Midway Solar project in the west of the state. It will be the largest installed PV project in Texas to date.
174 Power Global plans to build, own and operate the power plant for 25 years and sell 100% of its electrical output to Austin Energy, a leading Texas renewable energy purchaser. More than 680 000 mono-crystalline 345Wp modules for the project will be provided by Hanwha Q Cells. Engineering, procurement, and construction will be carried out by Hanwha Q Cells USA.
The total project costs are approximately USD 260 million.
“The project has been in development for 2 years and the company considers this a premier achievement as 174 Power Global begins to roll out the first of several more US utility scale projects in its current pipeline.” said Deborah Reyes, head of Development for the Eastern Region and Mexico country manager for 174 Power Global.
