Canadian energy company Innergex Renewable Energy has signed a 12 year power purchase agreement (PPA) with an affiliate of Luminant for 300MW of its Foard City wind farm in Texas.

The wind farm is located n Foard County in Texas. The PPA will come into force, once the wind farm begins operations.

The project’s development is progressing at right pace and Innergex expects to issue full notice to proceed with construction in the fourth quarter of this year.

Innergex said that site control has also been completed, along with other development milestones including environmental impact assessments and signing of the local property tax abatement agreements.

Recently, the company has also executed an interconnection agreement for Foard City with Electric Commission Texas. The wind farm’s commercial operation is expected to begin in the third quarter of next year.

After completion the wind farm’s completion, the facility is expected to reach an installed capacity of about 350MW.

Besides, Innergex stated that the on-site activities performed since 2016 should quality for Foard City wind project for US renewable tax incentives or production tax credits (PTCs). Discussions with financiers to secure tax equity and debt financing for the project are currently going on.

Innergex president and CEO Michel Letellier said: “With all of our ongoing development activities in the US, we are very pleased to have developed a new relationship with a strong offtaker such as Luminant.

“Innergex is on a growth trajectory and, thanks to our dedicated team of talented people, we intend to seize every sound opportunity to pursue our development in Canada, the United States, France and in Latin America. We are on track to reach and exceed a net installed capacity of over 2,000 MW by 2020.”

Recently, Innergex and Sekw’el’was Cayoose Creek Band (Sekw’el’was) have signed an agreement with BC Hydro to renew the Walden North hydro facility’s electricity purchase agreement (EPA).

As per the agreement, it is effective from 1st April this year and the term is for 40 years. This agreement is subject to approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission.
