Greengate announced that its 113MW Stirling Wind project has received a 20-year Renewable Electricity Support Agreement (RESA) from Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO).

Stirling wind project is jointly-owned by Greengate, Potentia Renewables and Paul First Nation. Potentia owns a majority stake in the project.
With the award of this key contract, the project is expected to be under construction in the near future. Under the terms of the RESA, Stirling Wind will receive a guaranteed price for all the power it produces for a period of 20 years.
The Stirling Wind project includes approximately 17,000 acres of land, located 5km northeast of the Stirling town. The project is located on a large plateau of cultivated and grazing land, and has an excellent wind resource which is among the best in Alberta.
Greengate president and chief executive officer Dan Balaban said: “The Stirling Wind Project is among the first successful renewable energy project partnerships between industry and a first nations community in Alberta.

“Stirling is the third wind energy project successfully developed by Greengate in Alberta and demonstrates Greengate’s continued leadership in Alberta’s fast-growing renewable energy sector. We look forward to completing Stirling with our partners so that its social, economic and environmental benefits can be realized by all involved.”
The wind project is proposed to be connected to Alberta’s electric grid through an existing 138kV transmission line located west of the project.
Greengate claims to have developed 480MW of operating wind energy projects in Alberta and Ontario, Canada since 2017. Representing approximately $1bn of investment, the projects provide a clean source of power to over 200,000 homes.
Greengate says that it is currently engaged in the development of over 1,000MW of sustainable energy projects in Alberta and across North America.
