Georgia Power has issued Request for Proposals (RFP) for 540MW in renewable energy generation, through the Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI), as approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) in 2016.

As per REDI, the company is authorized to procure 1.2GW of renewables through multiple programs. This is the final REDI solicitation underway and Georgia Power will now accept bids for utility scale renewable projects for 540MW.
Georgia Power stated that it soliciting eligible renewable energy including solar, wind or biomass projects greater than 3MW and up to 540MW in size for this RFP. The solicitation is also proposals to include energy storage in conjunction with renewable resources.
The RFP is being conducted under the oversight of Accion Group, which will serve as an independent evaluator for the process. Interested parties are invited to review terms of the RFP and submit proposals by noon on 15 January, next year.
Georgia Power renewable development director Wilson Mallard said: “We are proud of the principles that we have built upon with REDI, such as competitive bidding, as we continue to procure renewable energy from cost effective resources to maximize the benefits for our customers.
“Georgia Power has worked with the PSC to be a national leader in renewable energy and we are eager to receive, review and select projects from this RFP that will provide significant long-term value.”
Last year, the company awarded power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 510MW of solar projects in the first phase of REDI’s utility scale procurement. Those three projects are presently being developed in Central, South and Southwest Georgia.
Georgia Power stated that through such programs and projects developed in coordination with the Georgia Public Service Commission, it is committed to maintain a diverse generation portfolio which will include electricity from renewable sources.
Presently, 976MW of solar capacity is online and the company continues to develop a large voluntary renewable portfolio in the US. By continuously implementing the REDI program along with other solar projects and programs, the company expects to add up to 1.6GW of additional renewable resources by the end of 2021.
