The company will be investing €280m for these projects. Enel aims to double its renewable energy capacity in Spain’s Andalusia and Extremadura regions. In these two territories, Enel has an installed renewable capacity of 350MW.

During the course of next year, Enel’s subsidiary will proceed with the construction of new wind farms that will generate 64MW and new solar plants totaling 260MW.

The wind projects are expected to benefit from Andalusia’s notoriously strong and constant winds.

In Vejer de la Frontera, a short distance from the city of Cádiz, its wind farm will generate 22MW, while a second one will generate 42MW. It will find its place near Malaga, nestled among the towns of Teba, Almargen and Campillos.

On the other hand, Extremadura will include six new solar plants.

Enel is the designated winner of the Spanish government’s second wind energy tender and third solar energy tender. In the next few years, it will build new renewable energy plants with a total estimated installed capacity of 879MW, of which 540MW will be wind energy and the remaining 339MW will be solar.

The company stated: “Spain’s goal is to reach a 20% quota in renewable energy consumption within 2020, as mandated by the European Union.”

Enel Green Power España is planning to build seven new renewable plants in the Extremadura and Murcia, at a total cost of €800m. Once operational, these new plants will generate about 1750GWh of clean energy every year.

After acquiring five wind farms in Galicia and Catalonia with a total of 132MW, EGPE now manages its Spanish portfolio of wind farms totaling 1.8GW in capacity.

Overall, the renewable plants of EGPE generate about 4TWh of carbon free energy annually.
