Under the contract, the GE company will deliver turbomachinery equipment for three LNG trains of the Golden Pass LNG export project. Included in these are six MS7001 EA heavy-duty gas turbines driving 12 centrifugal compressors.
The contract announcement follows the final investment decision (FID) taken earlier this week by ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum, the owners of the LNG export project, which will be built in Sabine Pass.
BHGE Turbomachinery & Process Solutions president and CEO Rod Christie said: “We are proud to be working with Golden Pass on this innovative LNG project.
“Today’s announcement builds on our 30-year-plus track record of delivering high-availability and reliable LNG technology, with low total cost of operations.”
BHGE claims that MS7001 EA is the most used large industrial gas turbine available in the LNG market, with 77 units in operation across 13 countries. It further said that its technology, which enables optimized maintenance cycles, supports the project’s objective to be the lowest cost LNG supplier on the US Gulf Coast.
Golden Pass LNG president Sean Ryan said: “Our vision is to be the premier LNG exporter in North America.
“To accomplish that, we have to be reliable and cost competitive, and BHGE’s long history of delivering first class, large-scale LNG projects was a clear fit to help us deliver on our goal.”
The Golden Pass LNG export project will have a production capacity of nearly 16 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG. Its three LNG trains will have a capacity of around 5.2 MTPA each.
Expected to be commissioned in 2024, the liquefaction project will be integrated into the existing Golden Pass LNG import terminal.
Along with the FID, the project partners, through their joint venture Golden Pass Products, awarded a contract worth over $1bn to a consortium of McDermott International, Chiyoda International and Zachry Group.
Under the contract, the three companies will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the three LNG trains.
