International technology group Andritz has secured an order from Toyo Engineering (TOYO), to supply a PowerFluid Circulating Fluidized Bed boiler for the new biomass power plant to be built in Kamisu, Japan.

Andritz has agreed to deliver a PowerFluid boiler equipped with flue gas cleaning system for Obayashi Kamisu Biomass Power Generation Corporation’s plant. The new biomass power plant will be constructed in Kamisu in the prefecture of Ibaraki, some 100 km to the east of Tokyo.
This Fluidized Bed boiler is considered to be a crucial part of the high-efficiency biomass power plant for its supply of green energy to the national grid.
The biomass power plant needs wood pellets as primary fuel. Firing wood pellets would generate around 50MW of power that enables clean energy supply for approximately 110,000 household from renewable sources.
In July, Toyo Engineering secured a contract to build the biomass power plant jointly with Obayashi. Under the contract, Toyo will be responsible for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for a power generation unit.
The Kamisu project is the second one to receive an Andritz PowerFluid Circulating Fluidized Bed boiler for the Japanese market.
In November last year, the company secured an order from Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) to deliver a PowerFluid circulating fluidized bed boiler with flue gas cleaning system for a new biomass power plant to be built in Ichihara in the Chiba Prefecture, 30km to the east of Tokyo, Japan.
Under the contract, ANDRITZ will be responsible for the engineering work, delivery, erection work, and start-up of the fluidized bed boiler, including a flue gas cleaning system with high-dust SCR and auxiliary equipment.
The facility is scheduled for start-up in the third quarter of 2020. The biomass power plant fired with palm kernel shells and wood pellets will generate around 50MW of power.
