The work will take place on Cleary Street from Mill Street to Division Street. This work is being completed ahead of the City’s road reconstruction. Work is also occurring on Howard Street from Ladd Street to Wood Street and on Wood Street from Howard Street to Madison Street. Construction is expected to start next month.

Illinois American Water’s water main replacement program focuses on replacing mains where leaks occur, corrosion has caused damage or the size of the pipe isn’t sufficient. Water main replacements also help to decrease the occurrence of water main breaks and related traffic and service impact.

Pontiac District operations superintendent Tim Tuley said: “Continuous investment in our local water infrastructure is critical for ensuring customers receive quality, reliable drinking water service. This work to replace and upgrade water mains will help ensure adequate water pressure and flow to homes, businesses and for fire protection.”

Customers affected directly by the water main replacement work will be notified directly or via letter about the impact and any necessary steps.

In addition to the water main investment projects, the company is also investing approximately $75,000 to create more parking space at its Howard Street office building to improve customer service. A neighboring property was purchased for this effort. Work is expected to kick off next month.
