ABB has secured an order from JG Summit Petrochemical, a subsidiary of JG Summit, for the supply of electrical and process power management systems for its petrochemical project in the Philippines.

ABB stated that the plant expansion can increase cracker production of ethylene by 50% to 480,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) and propylene by 26% to 240,000 tpa.
The new bimodal polyethylene plant will reach a capacity of 250,000 tpa and the capacity of the existing polypropylene plant will be upgraded from the present 190,000 tpa to 300,000 tpa.
As part of the contract, ABB will design, engineer, manufacture, and supply a complete plant electrification system for the proposed expansion. For this project, ABB will supply 69kV high voltage air-insulated switchgear, UniGear medium-voltage switchgear, MNS low-voltage switchgear, power and distribution transformers, a capacitor bank, soft starter, IS-limiters and a process power management system.
The solution is claimed to integrate with ABB’s Ability 800xA process and electrical control systems to ensure a reliable and stable electricity supply.
As per the Swiss electrical equipment supplier, the expansion will require a sophisticated electrical network solution because of the inter-meshing of power systems from the existing plant and the new extension.

In September, ABB secured a contract from Hyundai Engineering to carry out certain electric works at the Melaka oil refinery in Malaysia owned by Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRC), a subsidiary of Petronas.
As part of the contract, the company will work on modification of existing and installation of new electrical systems and electrical network monitoring and control system (ENMCS) at the crude oil refinery located in the southern part of the Malay Peninsula.
Financial terms of the contract were not revealed.
