The GAIA fuel is part of a global research and development project, which intends to address the needs of utilities.
Areva Fuel Business Line senior vice-president Ron Land said: "This delivery is an important step in the deployment in the US market of GAIA, an innovative solution that provides an answer to some of the operational and economic challenges faced by our customers.
"This is a major success for AREVA’s research and development teams."
In July 2014, a technical advisory board was launched by six nuclear utilities in US to deploy Areva’s PWR fuel assembly design.
The board comprises utilities,including Dominion, Duke Energy, Exelon and PSEG.
One of the utilities had planned to operate a around eight lead test assemblies starting this year.
GAIA offers high mechanical fretting resistance, better thermal performance and increased tolerance to earthquakes, which help utilities save costs.
