The miners were trapped at the Stannum mine in Lianghe County on Saturday following a mudflow into the mine caused by heavy rainfall.

Local authorities used 1,000 rescuers for the operation, who excavated a tunnel to bring out the trapped miners.

In a separate accident, six miners were rescued from flooded colliery in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province after being trapped for more than six days inside.

Xinhua news agency cited officials as saying that the incident, which took place on July 20, was also caused by heavy downpour in the region, which left 15 miners trapped inside.

Four miners have lost their lives while five others are still trapped inside.

Xinhua said: "Rescuers are racing to search for the other five workers who have been trapped in the pit for about seven days."
