Russia -based Baltic Construction Company has signed a contract with the Tajik electricity utility, Barki Tochik, to construct various facilities at the Rogun hydroelectric power plant, 110km east of Dushanbe, according to the RIA Novosti news agency.

This work will include the construction of a 335m high stone and earth dam, and various water channels, as well as the damming of the Vaskhsh river. The contract is worth around US$100M.

The construction of the Rogun hydro plant will make it possible to irrigate surrounding agricultural land in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and supply electricity to local consumers.
