Zakum Development Company (ZADCO) has extended the project management consultancy (PMC) contract with Amec Foster Wheeler for the UZ750 project in the Upper Zakum (UZ) field, 84km north-west of Abu Dhabi.

Amec will provide PMC services as part of an integrated project management team.

ZADCO will manage delivery of reimbursable engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work by contractors, and commission the facilities.

This work is planned to be completed in December 2017.

The initial PMC contract on the UZ750 project was awarded to Amec Foster in June 2008.

Amec Foster Wheeler Asia, Middle East, Africa and Southern Europe group president Roberto Penno said: "The Middle East is a key growth area for Amec Foster Wheeler and we look forward to continuing our relationship with ZADCO on this next important phase of work."

ZADCO is a joint venture company formed to develop the Upper Zakum field. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company has 60% stake in the venture, while ExxonMobil and Japan Oil Development (JODCO) have 28% and 12% respectively.

The UZ750 project, which involves four artificial islands with associated drilling and production facilities, was launched in 2008 to boost production from the Upper Zakum (UZ) field 750,000 barrels of oil a day (bpd).

The Upper Zakum field is estimated to hold 50 billion barrels of oil reserves.
