The state-owned energy firm Kazatomprom has signed an agreement with China Nuclear Energy Industry (CNEIC) for the temporary storage services of natural uranium concentrates in China and transport to the western ports, reported world nuclear news.
CNEIC is the subsidiary of a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
Kazatomprom was quoted by the news publication as saying that the cooperation between the two countries will enable it to diversify supply routes for its uranium products on the world market.
Kazakhstan entered into a framework strategic cooperation agreement with CNNC in September 2007 and it was followed in October 2008 with another on long-term nuclear cooperation projects, under which CNNC agreed to invest in a uranium mine.
In the same year, Kazatomprom signed deal with both China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group Holdings (CGNPC) and CNNC to acquire a 49% interest in two uranium mine joint ventures and supply 2000 tU per year from them.
