Located near Jamnagar, one of the major industrial towns of Gujarat, the Sikka coal-based thermal power plant is being built for Gujarat State Electricity (GSECL).

Bhel is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the power plant.

The first unit of 250MW rating was commissioned in March 2015 while the two other units, each with 120MW capacity, were also developed and launched by BHEL earlier.

Earlier, Bhel secured a contract from GSECL for the construction of 800MW coal-fired supercritical thermal unit at Wanakbori in Kheda district of Gujarat on EPC basis.

The company announced to manufacture the key equipment for Wanakbori power plant at its facilities located in Trichy, Haridwar, Bhopal, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Jhansi.

Additionally, the company’s Power Sector – Western Region will be responsible for civil works and erection/commissioning of the equipment for the coal-fired power plant.

To date, Bhel has secured contracts to supply 251 generation sets of 250MW class.

The firm has installed power plants, which have a combined generation capacity of 2,730MW in the current financial year (2015-16).

Bhel designs, engineers, manufactures, constructs, tests, commissions and services a wide range of products for power, transmission, industry, transportation (Railway), renewable energy, oil and gas and defense sectors.
