Additionally to the two MRFs, Greenstar will be mounting a glass processing technology to meet remelt quality needs.

Paper and cardboard will be sorted and sent to the UK reprocessors, while cans, plastics and glass will be send for further processing at Greenstar’s ‘super MRF’ at Aldridge, near Birmingham.

Greenstar also has begun construction on a facility in Derby, UK. The Derby plant is expected to cost around GBP500,000 construction, will have an yearly capacity of 50,000 metric tons per year. The facility is anticipated to be complete by this March 2009. The plant will process paper collected by Derby City Council earlier to selling it direct to domestic paper mills. Processing of the remaining blended recyclables will see plastics sent to Aldridge for further treatment, while cans and glass will be sold direct to reprocessors.

Greenstar also is involved in developing an additional MRF in the north London area. The north London plant could add 250,000 metric tons of processing capacity.

Greenstar also is touting innovative technology to process glass. The technology, developed by Greenstar, will allow glass collected at the company’s Aldridge plant to meet remelt quality specifications .

During system development and testing over the past two months, around 160 metric tons of glass were put through the enhanced process.

The new system will be capable of processing up to 200 metric tons a day of mixed glass. In recent times Aldridge was awarded ‘strategically important’ accreditation by China’s recycling quality inspection agency, CCICC, which has confirmed that Aldridge’s entire recycling process produces dry recyclates, such as paper, cardboard, plastic and metal materials, to the required high quality that permits them to be exported direct to Chinese reprocessors and manufacturers.
