The Amur GPP will have a processing capacity of up to 49 billion cubic meters of gas a year.
Planned to be developed using Linde technologies, the project involves construction of a helium production block, which have up to 60 million m3 of annual production capacity.
Gazprom management committee chairman Alexey Miller said: "The construction launched of the Amur GPP is a milestone event for the Russian gas processing industry and for the emerging gas industry in Eastern Russia.
"The Amur GPP means high technologies, significant investments and thousands of new jobs.
"It will give a powerful impetus to the socioeconomic development of the Amur Region and other Far Eastern provinces."
The construction follows a deal signed by Gazprom in September 2015 with the Russian Far East, for constructing the Amur gas processing plant.
On 21 May 2014, state-owned oil and gas firm China National Petroleum (CNPC) has signed an agreement to purchase Russian gas from Gazprom through the Power of Siberia gas pipeline.
Under the terms of the 30-year deal, China will receive 38 billion m3of Russian gas per year, between May 2019 and May 2021.
Subsequently, Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk, unit of Gazprom, signed a partnership deal with NIPIgazpererabotka (NIPIGAZ), a part of SIBUR Group, in July 2015 for the designing, coordinating equipment and material supplies as well as managing the construction of the Amur GPP.
The Power of Siberia gas pipeline will planned to deliver the multi-component gas from the Yakutia and Irkutsk gas production centers, which are being developed by Gazprom, to the GPP.
The Amur GPP will then process and produce ready for sale methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane-hexane fraction and helium.
Gazprom plans to commission the GPP production lines in phases, which will be synchronized with the development of gas production capacities in Yakutia and the Irkutsk Region.
