Located 8km off the Holderness coast, the wind farm is expected to generate enough energy for about 210,000 homes.
The project, which is expected to be completed in the first of half of 2015, is 50% owned by Dong Energy, with the other half divided equally between the UK Green Investment Bank and Japan-based Marubeni.
The project will help to meet the UK’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and will contribute towards achieving the country’s targets of generating electricity from renewable energy schemes.
Commenting on the installation of first turbine, Dong Energy Westermost Rough program director Duncan Clark said: "This is a major landmark in the construction phase of this project and its achievement is a great credit to the DONG Energy team and our supply chain partners.
"This is the first time we have installed the Siemens 6MW turbine with a 154m diameter rotor on a commercial scale following smaller demonstration projects, and it represents a step change in our ability to provide more energy output from fewer turbines."
The Westermost Rough site and West of Duddon Sands on the west coast are two offshore wind projects that Dong Energy is currently building in the UK.
Once the wind farms become operational in 2015 and 2014 respectively, over 500MW of green electricity will be added to the UK Grid.
