The company invested about €10m on renovating the power plants in the last three years.
Iberdrola deployed advanced technology to enhance output and expand the lifespan of the facilities.
Under the project, the company re-engineered electromechanical turbines and alternators and undertook civil works for upgrading canals as well as weirs.
The control systems have also been replaced as part of the project, which also included environmental and safety measures like increasing fish ladders at weirs and fences along canals.
Iberdrola operates 92 small hydro power plants in Spain with a combined installed capacity of 306MW at the end of the first half of 2014.
The company has upgraded facilities located in the autonomous regions of the Basque Country, Valencia, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Navarre and La Rioja.
Iberdrola, which has 14,390MW installed capacity globally, manages 6,109MW of renewable energy portfolio in Spain.
The company plans to undertake an investment programme between 2014 and 2016 amounting to a net €9.6bn focused on projects and countries that have stable and predictable regulatory frameworks.
Of the total amount, 46% will be allocated to new infrastructure and the rest will be used for maintenance and improvements.
