Under the seven-year contract extension, Vestas will serve the Ardenville, Blue Trail and Summerview II wind projects that are situated in the Fort MacLeod and Pincher Creek areas of Alberta.
Vestas has serviced the projects, which feature 68 V90-3MW turbines, since their first operation in 2009 and 2010.
The new agreement extends the Danish wind turbine manufacturer’s commitment through 2021.
Vestas will deliver its full-scope AOM 5000 service package, an energy-based availability guarantee which makes sure that the turbines are operational when the wind is blowing.
Vestas president for sales and service in the US and Canada Chris Brown said: "By bundling together the service arrangements for these three projects, we can find synergies and efficiencies that allow us to lower the projects’ lifetime cost of operations.
"All together, TransAlta has more than 750 MW of Vestas turbines installed, and we’re very happy to continue our work with TransAlta on this new basis."
Vestas has revealed in a separate press release that German electricity firm Steag awarded a contract to provide turbines for the 66MW Suloglu wind power plant in Edirne, in western Turkey.
Under the contract, Vestas will supply, install, and commission 20 V126-3.3MW wind turbines.
The contract also includes a 10-year active output management (AOM) 4000 service and availability agreement.
