Japan-based Sumitomo will own the 6MW Willey Battery Storage project, which will be built by RES.
RES developed the project, which will feature three containers of lithium ion batteries manufactured by Toshiba, and three inverter units produced by Parker Hannifin.
The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, will provide frequency regulation service to North America grid operator PJM. It currently operates power grids in 13 states in the northeastern US.
RES Americas’ RESolve energy storage platform will handle the monitoring, dispatch and control of the system.

RES has 55.6MW and 27.3MWh of energy storage projects either in operation or under construction. It has more than 7.7GW of utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects and built over 600 miles of transmissions lines across the US, Canada, and Chile.
