QuickLogic’s VEE PSB is based on the proven iridix core licensed from Apical Limited. VEE improves the user’s visual experience by adaptively processing each video frame on a pixel-by-pixel basis. VEE also adapts to the effects of ambient lighting on display viewability, giving developers a superior solution to simply boosting display backlight intensity levels for daylight viewing. The result is a dramatic savings in power, with a corresponding battery life extension.
“Displays are no longer just viewed temporarily for navigation and dialing,” said Brian Faith, QuickLogic’s vice president of worldwide marketing. “Consumers use their handheld devices continuously for web browsing, video, photo sharing and mobile television. The image enhancement and power savings that VEE enables, particularly with larger, higher resolution displays being used in MCDs and Netbooks, are critical to realizing the promise of a truly mobile Internet experience.”
The second generation VEE PSB (v2.0) will support display resolutions up to wide XGA (1366×768) as well as several additional features that ease design of next-generation display subsystems, including built-in color space conversion, dithering, gamma correction, and sharpening. At the same time, VEE v2.0 achieves a lower power benchmark than v1.0 in terms of microWatts/MHz.
Availability:
The second generation VEE PSB will be available as a hard logic implementation in future ArcticLink II VX solution platforms scheduled for availability in August 2009.
