Williams Partners has commissioned the Virginia Southside II project, an expansion of its Transco interstate natural gas pipeline to deliver additional service to southern Virginia markets.

Through the Virginia Southside II project, the capacity of the Transco pipeline system is expected to be increased by 250,000Dth/d. This added capacity will also be used to supply a new 1,588MW Greensville County Power Station in Virginia which is owned by Dominion Virginia Power.

The Virginia Southside II project has seen addition of a new 1.6km long 24-inch diameter pipeline spanning from the Transco Brunswick Lateral in Brunswick County and terminating in Greensville County, in Virginia.

The project is now the fifth expansion of the Transco natural gas pipeline in the current year after the Gulf Trace, Hillabee Phase 1, Dalton and New York Bay expansions.

All the five pipeline expansion projects, which are fully contracted, provide an additional capacity of over 2.8 million Dth/d to the Transco pipeline system in 2017, thereby expanding its design capacity by almost 25%.

Williams Partners CEO Alan Armstrong said: “The Virginia Southside II project was placed into service on time and under budget and highlights our continued execution on growth projects.

“The timely execution of these five projects within our original collective capital budget is further evidence of Williams Partners’ sector-leading capabilities to permit, contract and construct expansion projects that serve the growing needs of our customers and meet the investment requirements of our unitholders.”

In other expansion works related to the Transco pipeline, Williams Partners says that construction is going as per schedule on the greenfield part of the $3bn Atlantic Sunrise project in Pennsylvania.

The Atlantic Sunrise project has been designed to increase delivery of natural gas by 1.7 billion cubic feet per day and is scheduled to enter into full operations in mid-2018.

Williams Partners has also reported that construction is going on for phase 2 of its Garden State Expansion project with commissioning slated for the second quarter of 2018.

The Garden State project is expansion of the Transco pipeline to provide additional service of up to 180,000Dth/d to New Jersey Natural Gas Company (NJNG).
