The IC addresses the designer’s need for a low-cost dual regulator for 5V and 3.3V rails in consumer applications, the company said.

The device targets cost sensitive consumer applications such as wired and wireless broadband communication equipments, printers, HD set top boxes, computing peripherals and low power FPGAs, all applications where total cost is a critical design consideration. The MIC4782 is available in volume quantities, with pricing starting at $1.31 for 1K units.

The company claims that the MIC4782 features ultra-fast operation and a proprietary internal compensation, which allows for fast transient response. The high PWM frequency of operation allows the use of the small and cost-effective LC components.

Each channel provides up to 2A of output current, while designers can realize more than 92% efficiency. The output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.6V and the device can operate with a maximum duty cycle of 100% for use in low dropout conditions. The MIC4782 is available in an exposed pad 16-pin 3mm x 3mm MLF package.
