After the completion of the pilot program, the city is now considering to move forward with the plan to retrofit the network of 40,000 streetlights with LED technology lights. The city expects to publish the Request for Bid sometime this summer.
The company said that apart from the savings brought by the conversion to LED lights, it also helps reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil.
With every LED light Hi Score installs, it reduces oil consumption by one barrel per month and the company expects to reduce Pittsburgh’s oil consumption by close to 5 million barrels over the first ten years that the LED Street Lights are being used, the company said.
Michael Zoyes, senior operational consultant at Hi Score, said: ”All these conversion programs are made possible as a result of President Obama’s Energy Saving Stimulus Package, and street lights are only the beginning, since the conversion of office buildings, shopping centers and homes will be a great opportunity for our company.”
