Located in Chelpur in Warangal District, the coal-based thermal power plant’s unit 1, with a capacity of 500MW, was commissioned by BHEL in 2010.
The 600MW generation set, featuring cylinder turbine, has been developed by Bhel as part of a contract awarded by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation (APGenco) in 2008.
The contract scope involved design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines, generators, boilers, associated auxiliaries and electricals, as well as controls & instrumentation (C&I).
Around 84% of Telegana’s coal-based power plants have been commissioned by Bhel.
Of the total contracted 21 sets of 600MW each, Bhel has commissioned 14 sets till date.
Telangana State Power Generation (TSGENCO) has recently awarded engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) orders totaling nearly 6GW of thermal power to Bhel.
Under the deal, the firm will be responsible for four 270MW units at Bhadradri, one 800MW unit at Kothagudem and five 800MW units at Yadadri power stations.
All the projects are expected to address the rising energy demands in the state.
By 2018-19, the state has set a target to have 13,960MW of power generation capacity including 4,000MW thermal plant by NTPC, 4,000MW Yadadri thermal plant of TSGENCO, and 1,800MW of Singareni Collieries Company, reported The Hind Businessline.
