The SmartWay Transport Partnership allows DHL Global Forwarding to calculate all of its sub-contracted miles and performance efficiency to measure the carbon foot-print associated with the company’s ground freight activity, DHL said.

DHL Global Forwarding is the third business division of Deutsche Post DHL after Global Mail and Express that joins the EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership.

DHL Global Forwarding said it will contribute to the partnership’s goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of its freight operations.

DHL joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership as an integral part of its continued development of the company’s GoGreen climate protection program, the company said.
