It is an award that recognizes achievements in marine environment project beyond the stipulated industry standards.
Founded back in 1882, Matson operates a fleet of 17 ships. The carrier is known to have a zero discharge policy, which means nothing but food scrap is discharged into the ocean.
Matson President Matt Cox said, "As a company that has a long history of serving some of the most pristine environments in the world – including Hawaii, Guam and California — Matson has quite naturally evolved into a carrier focused on setting a high bar when it comes to environmental stewardship."
Having won the biennial award back in 2006, this would be the second time for Matson to be associated with the Benkert Award.
