Set to be launched in the year 2013, BYD will provide six new, long-range all-electric buses to the town of just 1,000 residents. The island is home to Netherlands’ first National Park which is visited by over 350,000 people.
Friesland Provincial executive director Johannes Kramer stated, "Friesland province leads Europe in green transportation now. We will soon have a fully-electrified public transportation service with these six BYD electric buses."
Similar to the buses in the current fleet in size the new fleet of buses will have the capacity to carry 60-70 passengers. An overnight charge given to the buses allows them to run for a range of 250-300km.
BYD also bagged a 15-year maintenance contract.
