Pronghorn will perform the advancement process at its location in the Wyoming Technology Business Center in Laramie, Wyoming.

The TRO sensor, developed in 2005, is designed for use with advanced shipboard desalination systems used to create potable water and water disinfection systems used to clean cooling lines for propulsion and HVAC systems.

Since 2005, the company and ADA Technologies, a research, development and commercialization company engaged in creating and converting innovative technologies to commercial successes, have secured approximately $2.6m in grant monies for the TRO sensor R&D.

The TRO marine smart sensor will provide real-time measurements, robust construction, minimal maintenance labor, and improved calibration stability, the company said.

The compact in-stream sensor is capable of continuously detecting and reporting residual oxidant levels in hypochlorite-enhanced seawater streams used to kill marine organisms.

Pronghorn president & CEO Weston Welch said that the company’s TRO Marine Smart sensor will minimize costly, time-consuming maintenance associated with current technology.

"Our system will automate critical water disinfection systems, prolonging the life of expensive equipment, and simultaneously protecting marine ecosystems from excessive chlorine discharge and invasive species," Welch said.
