The existing water treatment equipment was projected to consume 270kW of power to treat the design flow to discharge standards.
Aerojet was installed the more efficient UV system in support with SMUD, which has provided an incentive of $119,171, at the Groundwater Extraction and Treatment (GET) facility in October 2010.
Following the installation of efficient UV system, the facility’s energy usage has dropped from 270kWh to 120kWh, resulting in a savings of 150kWh.
The company estimates that the system will result in an approximate annual savings of $120,000 in energy costs.
Aerojet site remediation engineering manager responsible for the evaluation and operation of the UV system Chris Fennessy said that the company continues to reduce its GET facility ancillary impacts on the environment, including energy consumption, while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of its remediation technologies.
