Ethanol 2.0 is similar to conventional ethanol except that it uses a different feedstock – sweet sorghum and a fundamentally different production process.
Epec CEO Ron Miller said that currently the US Biofuel industry produces nearly 15 billion gallons per year of renewable fuel – ethanol produced from corn.
"I’m very excited about the opportunity to play a leading role with Ethanol 2.0, utilizing a sugar-rich feedstock that can give rise to an industry akin to Brazil’s highly successful sugarcane program," added Miller.
The equity infusion reflects a shift in Epec Biofuels’ strategy, one that started in 2011. It positions Epec to become the industry integration platform to be able to bring Ethanol 2.0 to commercial production.
