BASF has made several acquisitions in the recent past to further strengthen its position in materials for high-performance batteries.
The company has stepped up its research and development in the field and is partnering with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology for the development of new battery materials.
Commenting on the developments BASF senior vice president for battery materials Ralf Meixner said that the last few months have seen the company take major strides to towards becoming the leading supplier of functional materials and components for existing and future lithium-ion batteries.
BASF aims to be amongst the top three suppliers of materials for producing batteries and cells by 2020.
