Hospitaria will employ energy-efficient systems such as exterior insulation and tinted double-paned windows besides efficient lighting, air-conditioning and plumbing to reduce energy consumption.

The construction of the hospital will be compliant with IFC’s performance standards that stipulate guidelines to minimize environmental damage.

Hospitaria will be the first green hospital in Mexico and also the first in IFC’s worldwide portfolio.

The agency expects the milestone to encourage similar green builds in the country and worldwide.

IFC senior manager for Mexico and Central America Roberto Albisetti said, "With this project, we expect to raise the standards for other players in the sector."

The hospital is expected to be operation from October 2013 and is expected to provide health-care services to over 27,000 patients during its first five years of operation.
