Enerkem will use this project to demonstrate the market potential of technologies that can reduce GHG emitted by biorefineries. The company will convert the targeted biomass-rich feed stocks into biofuels using its proprietary technology to cut GHG emission.
The project will also focus on the direct use of CO2 in dry reforming – in the company’s synthetic gas conditioning process – and its inclusion in advanced chemicals.
The company will conduct these tests at the Advanced Energy Research Facility (AERF) in Edmonton, Alberta, which is a joint effort between the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, Alberta Innovates – Energy and Environment Solutions and Enerkem.
The tested technologies and products will be implemented in Enerkem’s commercial biofuels facility in Edmonton, Alberta, under the guidance of Dr Esteban Chornet, co-founder and chief technology officer of Enerkem.
