The biogas plant will generate electricity from dairy and chicken farm waste.
Be’er Tuviya Regional Council head Dror Shor was quoted by The Jerusalem Post as saying that the facility will provide an end solution to farmers and to the environment.
"Thanks to these projects, we do not need more polluting power plants," he added.
According to the council, the plant will also address issues concerning water contamination and smells in dairy barns and chicken coops in addition to electricity generation.
The council expects the plant to initiate operations in the next few months to transform waste into 4MW of energy, providing electricity to over 6,000 homes.
About 10% to 15% of dairy farm waste in Israel will be used to generate electricity, effectively reducing damage to the environment.
