The projects include the construction of a 19.5MW Cedar Hills wind generation facility in southwest North Dakota. The project is located on leased land approximately five miles west of Rhame, North Dakota.
The company has also increased the capacity of its Diamond Willow wind facility located near Baker, Montana, by an additional 10.5MW. The company has installed seven additional wind turbines on leased land, thereby expanding the capability of the site to 30MW.
The North Dakota site, which consists of 13 turbines, is situated close to a Montana-Dakota transmission line for interconnection.
The company, which has invested nearly $130m in wind generation and other renewable projects, will use the surplus generation from both projects to provide electricity to about 10,000 Montana-Dakota residential customers in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Dave Goodin, president and CEO of Montana-Dakota Utilities, said: “The projects were finished on schedule and provide us with additional electric generation for our customers. This further diversifies the types of electric generation used to meet our customers’ needs.”
