The proposed plant will be located at Lostock, Northwich was cleared for construction following a detailed public inquiry including an inquest into the effect of the sation on health, vision, traffic safety and the local environment.

A Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) spokesman highlighted the importance of having a balanced energy portfolio to meet future energy requirements of households and businesses alike.

"This plant takes waste and turns it into something of great value – enough power to supply 80,000 homes – and in addition creates jobs for the local community," the spokesman added.
