The plant expansion is a part of the Contour’s strategy to ramp up production to meet global demand for its portable power systems for automotive, military, medical device and consumer applications.

In addition to the expanded manufacturing plant, the company has also extended its manufacturing operations to include production and lab equipment that will be used to deliver new processes for the commercialization of its advancements in fluorine-based battery chemistries and nanomaterials science.

The manufacturing plant expansion closely follows Contour’s establishment of a limited subsidiary in the UK.

Joe Fisher, CEO of Contour, said: “2010 has been a year of extraordinary growth for Contour. We’ve made huge strides in refining our innovative technology that will produce battery systems in multiple form factors with unprecedented levels of performance offering higher power and energy densities, extended service life, and uninterrupted operation under extreme temperature conditions.

“Today’s manufacturing expansion sets the stage for the first wave of breakthrough battery systems from Contour.”
