Owned by Portuguese company Assunto Importante, the plant will primarily employ low-cost waste materials such as animal fat or used cooking oil to produce bio-diesel.
The upgrades will also ensure that the plant is in complaince with the recently implemented EN14214/2013 quality standard for enhanced bio-diesel quality.
Commenting on the upgrade BDI chief sales officer Dr Edgar Ahn remarked that the company had garnered much experiece over the years to suggest possible improvements in the construction of bio-diesel plants.
The upgrades were carried out under the BDI RetroFit programme wherein exclusive waste material usage offers both environmental benefits as well as sustainable biodiesel production in compliance with the EU Commission’s quantity targets.
Assunto Importante’s plant is now expected to produce 25,000t of second-generation bio-diesel per annum as a result of the upgrade.
