The project will provide solar power as well as smart grid benefits to the BAPCO township of Awali, the University of Bahrain amongst other locations in the country.

The facility will combine solar power with smart grid technologies resulting in the generation of clean and safe renewable energy while making the electric infrastructure more stable and reliable.

National Oil and Gas Authority chairman and Minister of Energy Dr Abdul Hussain Bin Ali Mirza outlined that the project is a first step towards diversifying the sources of energy needed to ensure the sustainable development of the Kingdom.

Petra Solar president and CEO Dr Shihab Kuran added, "Solar power and a stable electric grid are critical elements to Bahrain developing economic and energy security."
