Funds will be made available to the varsity from USDA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative to reduce the country’s dependence on imported oil and promote sustainability.

Dr. Thomas Richard at the Pennsylvania State University will lead the team of researchers with staff included from Cornell, Delaware State, Ohio State and other varsities and organizations.

Commenting on the funding Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack remarked that USDA is working with Department of Energy, the US Navy and the Federal Aviation Administration to improve America’s energy security and to provide sustainable jobs in communities across the country.

"The creation of this biofuel system will significantly contribute to improving rural prosperity and job creation in the Northeast by funding effective public and private sector partnerships," added Vilsack.
